A research team (with Hong Kong Shue Yan University and The Education University of Hong Kong) led by Professor Samson Tse at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of The University of Hong Kong, evaluated the impacts of interventions on service users before and after receiving community-based psychosocial services, and the effectiveness of Strengths Model Case Management (SMCM) implementation in the three Integrated Community Centres for Mental Wellness (ICCMWs), namely Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, Caritas Hong Kong, and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, using a randomized controlled trial design between 2017 and 2019. 209 participants received a 12-month intervention at the ICCMWs and completed questionnaires on their recovery from mental illness, user-caseworker therapeutic alliance, and goal-related achievements.
The findings reveal an improvement of participants’ recovery in terms of mattering, user-caseworker therapeutic alliance and goal-related performance after going through the 12-month psychosocial intervention/ support provided by the ICCMWs.
Professor Tse will hold a media briefing via Zoom on October 22 (Thursday) to release the research findings and discuss the implications on service support and SMCM implementation in ICCMWs.
