23 Apr 2026
The Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) successfully hosted "Career Jam: Thrive in the AI Era" on 18 April 2026. The event brought together students, distinguished alumni, and industry experts to bridge academic training with career opportunities, with a strategic focus on enhancing social sciences strengths, AI literacy, and practical workplace skills.
The event commenced with an opening address by Professor Samson Tse, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education), who outlined the Faculty’s vision for student success. "This is a moment for our students to pause, reflect, and recognise the unique strengths you develop through social sciences training - strengths that are highly valued by employers." said Professor Tse.
Mr Mills Wong, Founder of Rock Training Consultants Ltd., delivered an inspiring keynote speech, sharing valuable insights on the professional world. "Your career shouldn’t stand apart from your life - it should be built around what truly matters to you. The skills you gain are not just for work; they should also deepen your personal growth, life satisfaction, and sense of purpose. "
During the event, students participated in small-group discussions over meals to explore the workplace relevance of their major and minor studies. The programme also featured parallel alumni sharing sessions, where graduates who work in government sectors, business consulting, human resources, and the media and creative industries demonstrated how their social sciences background provided a solid foundation for success across diverse fields.
To ensure students are prepared for evolving work models, the event featured targeted workshops, including "AI-Ready Graduates," "Job Interview Mastery Skills," and dedicated career preparation for non-local students. Participants also benefited from optional add-on services, such as professional portrait-taking and 1-on-1 "CV MRI" clinics conducted by career advisors.
HKU Social Sciences graduates have a long-standing record of excellence. Building on this solid foundation, the Faculty remains proactive in helping graduates navigate the challenges of the global economic shift and AI advancements, ensuring they remain at the forefront of the ever-changing job market. By showcasing its comprehensive career support and academic excellence, the Faculty continues to demonstrate to the public and prospective students how social sciences empower the younger generation to adapt to societal changes, nurturing them into future-ready leaders with a global vision.
