The 29th Recognition Ceremony, organised by the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), was held on 25 April 2026 at Rayson Huang Theatre, HKU. The Ceremony aims to honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements and exemplary attitude of HKU’s finest students from diverse backgrounds, and to inspire the university community to learn from their dedication.
This year, three types of awards have been presented to 140 students who have demonstrated exceptional excellence in co-curricular achievements and endeavours, as well as outstanding contributions to the University and the wider community. The award categories included: Achievement Award for Co-curricular Excellence, Distinguished Service to the Community, and CEDARS Service Awards.
Mrs Cherry Tse Ling Kit Ching, Executive Vice-President (Administration and Finance) of HKU, officiated at the Ceremony and extended her heartfelt congratulations to the student awardees for their distinguished achievements and contributions to the HKU community and beyond.
“I wish to compliment the award-winning students on their achievements beyond academics. Though academic excellence is inevitably one of the key criteria for school and university admission, we must not lose sight of the fact that education is not just about grades. It is about whole-person development as well as an ethical core, an awareness that as individuals, we belong to a larger community on whose wholesome and sustainable development our own future also depends. Apart from honing their intellectual faculty through academic pursuits, the awardees demonstrate leadership through serving others. They go beyond their comfort zone and serve those in need locally and outside Hong Kong. They do HKU and Hong Kong proud!” said Mrs Tse.
Professor Kelvin Yeung, Dean of Student Affairs of HKU, remarked: “I am impressed by the countless hours our students have dedicated to serving the community and co-creating a vibrant and impactful student life with CEDARS at HKU, despite their many other commitments. It truly reflects their commitment as leaders who aspire to make a positive impact on our society. Wisdom and experience gained through these endeavours will become the foundation for their future success and lasting legacies. I encourage everyone to continue embracing every opportunity to grow, unleash their full potential, and achieve even greater goals.”
